Lately, Miyakojima’s sea has been glowing with the famous “Miyako Blue” every single day — the kind that makes you stop and say, “Wow, this place is unreal!”✨
And one day, I had the absolute honor of guiding a guest on one of those perfect days.
Felix Fung, who was visiting from Hong Kong on a solo adventure, joined us for the Clear SUP Tour at Uni no Hama, and wow — what a ZUMI (awesome) encounter it turned out to be‼️
Sunshine, SUP, and Skills from Hong Kong! 🏄♂️
The weather on tour day? Perfect.
Blue skies, calm waters (well… a bit windy 😉), and sunshine all around.
But no problem for Felix — he’s actually an experienced SUP paddler and even owns his own board back home 💪
That SUP confidence showed right away! He was gliding effortlessly across the Miyako Blue, and it made me super happy (and relaxed as a guide!)
Looking down through the clear board into the reef-filled sea must have been amazing 🌊
Drone Views＆Smiles is Perfect Memories!
Of course, Umi Sanpo’s drone camera was in action that day too!
We captured awesome shots of Felix on his board with Uni no Hama’s white sands and brilliant sea in the background 💙
His genuine smile stood out in every frame. And seeing those photos later — it’s just the best part of the tour for us too 📷✨
Tricks and Wipeouts Laughter Guaranteed!😂
Toward the end of the tour, Felix had an idea:
“Let’s try a trick!”
He attempted a move where you shift weight to the back of the board and raise the front like a wheelie.
…He fell. Then tried again. And fell again 😂
We were laughing nonstop — it turned into a splashy comedy show!
Not to be outdone, I attempted my infamous SUP handstand challenge… 10 seconds was the goal…
Let’s just say… the ocean won that round too 😆
Marine Creatures and Hometown Surprises 🐚
On our way back, we slowed down to enjoy the view and chat.
Felix was curious about marine life, so I showed him a few local treasures:
✨ Shimmering Giant Clams (Shakogai)
✨ A Tiger Cowrie Shell (Hoshitakaragai) with bold patterns
✨ And a group of cute Hermit Crabs (Yadokari)
He was so fascinated — and honestly, so was I! It reminded me how incredible this reef ecosystem is.
We also got to chatting about travel, and Felix mentioned working for an airport company in Hong Kong, plus his many Japan trips.
But here’s the twist — he had visited Aichi Prefecture, my hometown!
That random connection made me beam — and it made this solo-tour story feel even more special 🙏
A Solo Trip Filled with ZUMI Moments 💯
This tour wasn’t just about seeing a beautiful part of Miyakojima.
It was about:
✅ Felix’s amazing SUP skills
✅ The spontaneous laughter from falling off our boards
✅ Discovering we shared unexpected common ground
And through it all, we weren’t just guide and guest — we were two ocean-loving travelers sharing an unforgettable experience ✨
